Hibernation is here

Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn.
— Elizabeth Lawrence

The leaves have peaked and are covering the ground as plants are beginning to fade. Mother Nature is reminding us that we are approaching the end of another amazing season. As this cold weather starts to prep our plants and garden beds for winter, we are also gearing up for what our winter season will bring.

In the coming weeks, crews be cleaning up perennial plants, pulling out perennial weeds and doing a few selective woody plantings. This is actually a great time for planting woody varieties as they have already started going into dormancy and will be less shocked when planted. Come spring, they’ll have plenty of water from snow and rain and will establish themselves within the garden.

For these freshly planted woody varieties as well as some other selective plants, we will be applying Wilt-Pruf. This is a waxy spray protectant that helps delicate leaves of newly established or tender plants from the harsh winter winds.

Crews will also be applying selective soil amendments so they have the chance to permeate the ground before it freezes for winter. This makes a big difference for plants come spring, as they have all the nutrients and energy they need to wake up right there.

Once we have finalized garden clean up, our crews will start in on winter pruning. This includes pruning dead out of shrubs and trees and well as structural pruning for the health of plants in the long term.

As per the holiday season, we have wreaths and holiday decor coming out to those who are on the list. If you’re interested, please let us know!
