April showers bring

May flowers

In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.
— Margaret Atwood

For us at Garden Life, that above statement holds true: there’s really nothing like finally getting back into the garden after months of anticipation and coming home quite literally covered in soil. The birds are singing early in the morning, buds are at long last in bloom and cold mornings turn to breezy, sunny afternoons. It’s the perfect time of year to stop and take everything in, a time when you get watch everything in nature wake up. We hope you’re taking in all the sights and smells. As for us, like the bees that are back and buzzing about, the Garden Life crew are around finishing spring tasks and assessing plant adjustments and preparing to plant annuals.

In preparation for our last frost date around May 15th (fingers crossed). Our “annuals week” begins May 23rd with the delivery of several thousand annual plants grown by our friend and local plant guru Mike Garrity, who grows our special order in his Pittsfield, NH greenhouses starting in January.

Before the weather gets too hot we’ll be doing projects in gardens, planting perennials, shrubs and trees. Since the pandemic began, nurseries have been overwhelmed with high demand for plants and low supply from growers. We are doing everything we can to secure specified varieties and sizes, but it’s not always possible. If you have any specific plants you are looking to add to your garden, please let us know and we are happy to find out if they are available to us or if there is a substitute that may fit.

Hope you’re out smelling all the flowers,

The Garden Life Team
